“We cannot change our history”- Mauricio Pochettino gives verdict on Tottenham return as Chelsea manager

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino’s next Premier League game will be against his former side Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino will return to a previous home as the Chelsea manager when the Blues side face Tottenham Hotspur in a Premier League clash on next Monday. The Argentine manager has a big history with Spurs, where he made the club a major team in Europe and the Premier League despite not winning a trophy.

The 51-year-old enjoyed a terrific spell at the helm and also led them to the Champions League final in the 2018-19 season, where they lost 2-0 to Liverpool. The next season, he was sacked which was a heartbreaking moment for Spurs fans. Pochettino was then appointed as Paris Saint-Germain manager but endured a poor spell.

After plenty of interviews with Chelsea, the West Londoners named Pochettino their next manager and life under him seems to be progressing well despite a few defeats.

Pochettino will now return to his former side when Chelsea take on Tottenham, but before that, they will host Blackburn this Wednesday. The former Southampton manager will certainly be nostalgic, (h/t Football. London) and when asked about his time with Spurs by Glenn Hoddle on TNT Sports, he said:

“I think we cannot change our history, and I’m very proud of my past, but we need to move on, and now we are here. I need to show we are together at Chelsea. At the moment, I am so happy, and I hope that we can improve, but we are on a different project, and we need to be clever in the way we develop ideas.”

At Spurs, he had a different story; there, he created them into an elite squad, while at Chelsea, he is building a long-term project. Many would argue that his time at Spurs was futile because he couldn’t win any trophy, but he completely transformed that Spurs side, who were really unlucky to not win any trophy under the Argentine. When he goes back to his old stadium with a different side, it will be all nostalgic, but as he said, he is happy at Chelsea, and hopefully, he will also lead them to success.
