Agent of Moises Caicedo, Manuel Sierra has unveiled Chelsea’s unwavering commitment to secure the midfielder amidst intense interest from Liverpool.
Manuel Sierra, representing the Ecuadorian star, delved into the background of Caicedo’s eventual transfer to Stamford Bridge.
In an exclusive interview with Mundo Deportivo EC (h/t studiofutbol), Sierra elaborated on how Chelsea assured him they would sign Caicedo from Brighton, no matter how challenging the negotiations.
“Chelsea was there to support us at all times, they told us that they were going to get us out of Brighton, that they would do everything possible. The whole operation became quite complicated, because Brighton wanted a lot of money.”
Chelsea, true to their word, battled valiantly to complete the £115 million deal in the face of Liverpool’s competition. The Reds launched a last-minute attempt to hijack Chelsea’s move for Moises Caicedo during the August window.
Sierra credits the Blues for standing firm on their promise to do whatever it took to finalize the transfer. According to Sierra, it took time for Chelsea to match and ultimately surpass Liverpool’s offer. Nevertheless, the London club persevered until they secured Caicedo’s signature.
“Liverpool came in, we didn’t expect that. They appeared suddenly, they made things difficult; but Chelsea supported the cause to finish in blue. We ask for time for the offer to be equaled and surpassed. “It took days, but it came together.”
Caicedo has already left a profound mark at Stamford Bridge, starting in the last three Premier League games under Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea’s devoted fan base can thank the club’s unwavering commitment for successfully fending off Liverpool and securing one of Europe’s most promising young talents.
Sierra’s candid revelations showcase the tenacity with which the Blues fought to bring Caicedo to West London. Their unwavering stance averted a major transfer setback, enabling Chelsea to fulfil their promise of signing the Ecuadorian sensation.
