Mason Burstow says it was no-brainer to join Sunderland on loan

Chelsea loanee Mason Burstow has revealed that Mauricio Pochettino told him to join Sunderland on loan during the summer transfer window.

The youngster was on the bench for Chelsea’s opening game against Liverpool. The centre-forward earned his senior cap in a 3-1 defeat against West Ham United and came off the bench in the 3-0 win over Luton Town.

He was entrusted by the former Southampton manager with a starting role against AFC Wimbledon, and now a loan move where he will get regular game time which will be excellent for him to grow.

Mason Burstow reveals joining Sunderland was a no-brainer.

The Blues have a gifted centre-forward in Mason Burstow who has joined a prestigious team that will help him develop. He has already made his debut for Chelsea and it shows that the Argentine boss undoubtedly recognises his quality.

Burstow has spoken about his feelings after joining Sunderland, as he told The Northern Echo:

“I knew there was interest at the start of the window. It was mainly to buy me, but then Chelsea weren’t having it, and obviously I was part of things at Chelsea, being on the bench a few times and coming on.”

“Eventually, Pochettino gave me the go-ahead to go out on loan, and that’s when Sunderland came straight back in. I knew they had interest the whole time; I knew they were watching me, and that made it a no-brainer to come here.”

Pochettino has sent the striker to a place where he could continue to grow into a premier forward because he is aware of his exceptional talent. The fact that he was given an opportunity to play in a few Chelsea games demonstrates how confident the Argentine manager is in Burstow’s potential and hopefully, at Sunderland, he will have a chance to display just that.

Chelsea will keep an eye on his performance for the Championship side and if the forward makes a swift development, he could be in the first-team picture for the Blues next season.
