Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot gives his verdict on potential Chelsea move

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot has indicated he is content at the Italian club despite speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea. The Frenchman recently signed a contract extension in Turin until 2024 after his previous deal expired.

Rabiot had been touted as a target for Chelsea and Manchester United as he neared free-agent status over the summer. But the 28-year-old eventually committed to Juventus, and has now reaffirmed his happiness at the Serie A giants.

When asked about his future, Rabiot told French outlet Telefoot (h/t Metro) that he is currently quite happy at Allianz Stadium.

Juventus star Adrien Rabiot is quite happy in Turin indicating it would be troublesome to pull him to England.

This is a club where I am happy and we are having a very good season.

He added that remaining with the familiar setting of Juventus seemed the “best option” before the European Championships next year. Chelsea are in need of midfielders themselves following their summer fire sale but it is debatable if Mauricio Pochettino would have considered Rabiot to be undroppable from the playing XI.

“Staying at a team I knew very well, in the season going into the European Championship, seemed the best option. The club has faith in me. We’ll see later on about a renewal, but in any case I am very happy with my situation at the club and in the France squad.”

After starting all eight of Juve’s league games this campaign, Rabiot insists he feels trusted and valued in Turin. That suggests he is in no rush to seek a move away, despite rumoured interest from Chelsea as Mauricio Pochettino aims to reinforce his midfield.

Back in the summer, it had appeared Rabiot was destined to exit Juventus when his previous contract neared expiration. But his decision to sign fresh terms indicated he is content where he is for now. While Rabiot did not definitively rule out leaving in the future, he sounded open to extending his stay at Juve beyond 2024.

For Chelsea, it may signal an end to any hopes of luring the French international to Stamford Bridge. Surely, there are other better options available in the market.

Rabiot appears focused on success with Juventus after helping fire them to five wins in eight matches in Serie A this season. With his place in the team and Didier Deschamps’ France squad secured, a Premier League switch does not seem to appeal at this stage.
