Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea will recruit a centre-back to replace Trevoh Chalobah

Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea could go on the market in January and hunt for a centre-back if Trevoh Chalobah leaves the club. The England international is currently recovering from an injury, and his future remains questionable as Chelsea are open to selling the 24-year-old.

The transfer expert also hinted that Mauricio Pochettino is interested in bringing Bayer Leverkusen’s centre-back Edmond Tapsoba to Stamford Bridge. However, currently, the Blues appear well-stacked with plenty of options, but if Thiago Silva decides to leave, then the club will certainly have to look for a defender.

Bayern Munich remain interested in acquiring the 24-year-old, but it remains to be seen if they will start talks in the January transfer window over a possible move. Romano has given clarity on Chelsea’s next signing of a centre-back in his exclusive Daily Briefing of Caught Offside Column:

‘’I can say that Chelsea are also looking into a new centre-back signing for 2024. It’s because the decision of the club—which is now 100 percent confirmed—is to sell Trevoh Chalobah in the January transfer window.”

“Finding a centre-back at the level needed and for the right price is likely to prove difficult, though not impossible, and one player that could be of interest to Pochettino is Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.”

Chalobah doesn’t appear to be in Chelsea’s plans, and if he departs, we should find someone to replace him because besides him Silva is getting to the age where we don’t know how long he can continue. Rather than waiting until the next summer window to act, we ought to think about moving in January.

Considering that the Blues have indicated interest in signing Edmond Tapsoba, it will be interesting to watch how things unravel. He is young, which meets the Blues’ criteria for a young player, but it will take a while to get used to the Premier League, we have excellent defensive options and don’t need to worry about that.
