Lionel Messi last night lifted his historic eighth Ballon d’Or

Last night, Lionel Messi got his hands on his eighth Ballon d’Or at the age of 36. It sounds pretty shocking given how he has remained so consistent at the age of 36, competing with youngsters such as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

It could be his last, and we should cherish the moments he has given us throughout his playing career. The diminutive Argentine has also set the bar so high that it will be really hard for any player to reach that level.

We are really lucky to have witnessed such a talented player in our lives because it’s really hard to find such players with a plethora of talent. There are so many surprises he has given, from winning Copa America 2021 to the FIFA World Cup 2022.

He deserved that coveted football award because there is no better trophy than winning the World Cup. Haaland could feel unlucky, but he has plenty of playing career ahead of him, and if he continues with the same performance, he will certainly lift the next Ballon d’Or.

Many players congratulated the former Barcelona star and one of them was our own Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez, (h/t Football.London) who wrote on Instagram:

“The greatest of all *crown emoji*. There are no words, captain. Thank you so much.”

Fernandez and Messi are national teammates who both played a fundamental part in steering the nation to their third World Cup. The midfielder will also be hoping to lift the coveted price but for that, he will have to be consistent throughout his playing career we believe Fernandez has the talent which will take him places and we hope he achieves everything at Chelsea.

He is just 22 and is already seen as one of the best midfielders in Europe. His performance is undoubtedly deserving of recognition, and perhaps he will soon have the chance to take home the Ballon d’Or.
