Brentford have shockingly asked for a low price for Ivan Toney, who is linked with a move to Chelsea and Arsenal in the winter transfer window.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on the Debrief Podcast, (h/t The Sun) that the Bees are holding out just £65 million for their star striker, who is currently serving an eight-month ban due to betting.
Thought earlier, it was suggested the Bees would want not less than £80 million, and now even manager Thomas Frank has revealed they might have to sell Toney in January.
Toney will return to action in January when the betting ban is lifted but the England international has returned to training. It’s unlikely that he will be playing for the Bees after being linked with a move away.
The former Newcastle United striker finished as the third-top scorer in the Premier League behind Harry Kane and Erling Haaland and if he joins a top-side We can see him compete for Premier League Golden Boot.
Under Mauricio Pochettino as well, Chelsea have been desperate to get an experienced striker who can help them with their goal-scoring shortcomings. Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson are not as ruthless as Toney. His arrival will tremendously streamline our No. 9 position and push us to compete with elite teams.
However, we will face competition from London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal. But our improvement in performance should convince him that his addition will make us a whole lot better. Currently, the only thing we are lacking is a striker who can guarantee us goals in every game, and once this is sorted out, we will be up there contending with Tottenham and Manchester City.
Toney also has a strong admiration for the Gunners, so that’s a big challenge in signing him. Arsenal might use the Champions League as a trump card to convince the striker to join them. We had previously beaten Arsenal in bidding, so we shouldn’t have any problems when it comes to outbidding them once but the price looks affordable for both sides so let’s see how things develop.
