Ben Jacobs says Chelsea see 25-year-old star as the ‘missing piece’ in their team

The return of Christopher Nkunku will give Chelsea massive boost in their bid to finish top four this season

Prominent journalist Ben Jacobs has given his opinion on the return of Christopher Nkunku and said he is the missing piece in the Chelsea team. His return will be a big upgrade for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Nkunku’s acquisition came in November last year as Chelsea struck a deal with RB Leipzig quickly, but the Blues fans will have to wait for his official debut.

The Frenchman sustained a major injury during Chelsea’s pre-season tour, which saw him undergo surgery that will keep him out until December or January.

However, he could be back much sooner as the forward has started the next phase of his rehabilitation programme by returning to the gym, as he posted photos of his light workout in gyms.

His return could change Chelsea’s performance in many ways, given that Nkunku adds creativity and, most importantly, goals, given that he finished as joint top scorer in the Bundesliga last season.

Jacobs feels the same and shares his thoughts on how his comeback will solve many issues at Chelsea, as he told GiveMESport:

“I think Nkunku is very much seen as the missing piece and a significant addition to the starting XI when he returns from injury. It’s unfortunate for Chelsea because they knew he was coming for so long, and then, when he finally came, he picked up an injury. As a result, Chelsea have missed that kind of spark.”

The addition of Nkunku to this already strong group will be crucial, and once things begin to unfold, he will contribute a lot of quality. Mauricio Pochettino will be able to deploy his ideal system, in which each player can function in his natural position. Given that we currently have enough creative players, Nkunku will contribute goals, but we lack aggression in front of the net.

Nkunku’s position will primarily depend on Mauricio Pochettino’s decision, but if we recruit a consistent striker in January, the Frenchman might play behind the him.
