Chelsea owners entering the locker room after the game is acceptable for Mauricio Pochettino because he said he wouldn’t anticipate them addressing the players.
Following the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa, co-owner Behdad Eghbali went straight into the dressing room to address the players and manager. It raised questions about the Argentine manager’s feelings on the matter.
The Blues are 14th in the Premier League table with just four points and one win in six Premier League games. Unless things pick up fast, we could very well undo the good work done in the summer transfer window.
It was feared to be something serious, but it was understood that the co-owner didn’t talk to players and assured the Argentine manager that he fully trusts his ambitions. This is good news as the Blues’ boss needs to be given time to bring his ideas into fruition.
Thankfully, the former Paris Saint-Germain owner is understood to be fine with owners getting into the dressing room after the game, as he told the media, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano:
“I don’t see it in a bad way. For me, it’s good that they share with us. It would be different if they gave some speech, but they own the club and can do what they want. I am glad they came and shared with us”.
Owners entering the locker room to speak with Mauricio Pochettino and players is acceptable, but occasionally they need to recognize that there are places where they shouldn’t be. While the action rings differently at times of victory, it reeks of uncertainty when it comes after a defeat or unsatisfactory result.
After all, had the owners retained full faith in Pochettino, they could easily have communicated it to him without a pointed gesture such as walking into the dressing room.
It also diminishes the manager’s significance because it could undermine Pochettino’s prominence in the dressing room. While occasionally entering is acceptable, doing so constantly is not a good look for a side that needs a united stand.
