Jose Mourinho feels Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku is loved and wanted at AS Roma

Jose Mourinho has taken an indirect dig at the former clubs of Romelu Lukaku and claimed he is loved and wanted at AS Roma which wasn’t the case at Manchester United, Chelsea, or Inter Milan.

The former Everton striker was on the scoresheet in AS Roma’s annihilation of Empoli as they secured a thumping 7-0 win. The 30-year-old netted his sixth goal for the Serie A side, sliding the ball beneath Empoli’s goalkeeper to open his tally for the Romans.

It was his first goal for Roma and Chelsea will hope he continues this trend and the Serie A club makes a permanent move for the striker in next summer window. It should be a win-win for all parties involved.

It was speculated that Lukaku would sign with Inter Milan. However, the Nerazzurri withdrew from his signing after his negotiations with Juventus, and Old Lady supporters demonstrated opposition to the signing of Lukaku. Both sides more or less have a bone to pick with him for differing reasons.

Now that Mourinho is at Roma, the Belgian ace appears to have a manager who trusts him and is keen to have him at the club. Speaking to DAZN (h/t Mirror) the Portuguese manager said:

“I found him happy, Romelu needs to be happy to feel loved and wanted. He arrived here and immediately felt that the team needed a player like him. I think he’s really happy; he obviously likes to win, and that’s his nature.”

We may not agree with Mourinho here because he was certainly adored at every club, but because of his attitude problems, clubs had to distance themselves from him. He openly admitted he wanted to leave Chelsea when the Blues signed for a record fee, more or less losing sections of the fanbase. He also lost faith in Inter players and fans when he started negotiations with Juventus, so basically, he is the problem and not the clubs.

It’s good to see him being loved at Roma, and hopefully, his performance will be enough to encourage them to sign him permanently, which will come as a relief for Chelsea.
