“Struggling for points”- Conor Gallagher says Chelsea were ‘desperate’ to beat Aston Villa

Conor Gallagher says Chelsea wanted to make things right following narrow defeat against Aston Villa

Conor Gallagher opened up about how Chelsea were desperate to win against Aston Villa but came short and suffered a narrow 1-0 loss, making it three defeats in six Premier League games.

This puts Chelsea in 14th place in the Premier League, and the Blues have just one win currently in six Premier League matches if the winless streak continues this could put owners in a position to make a call on Mauricio Pochettino’s future.

They have continued to remain futile when it comes to scoring goals, while Robert Sanchez was at his best to keep Villa at bay with his terrific saves.

The West Londoners would have been down to more than one goal if it weren’t for Sanchez. However, a Thiago Silva mistake in the 73rd minute cost them the game, with Ollie Watkins finally breaking the deadlock.

Following the game, Gallagher revealed that the Blues were looking forward to making things right and were desperate for a win. He further told Chelsea’s official website:

‘’It’s really disappointing to lose the game. We came into this one trying to win the game, and given that we are struggling for points, we were desperate to win today. Obviously, the red card doesn’t help, but we can’t make any excuses. We’re just really disappointed, and we’re determined to put it right for the next game.’’

Gallagher’s dissatisfaction is apparent, and it is clear that not only he but also the other players were weary of going down in defeat. Although every player gave it their all in every game and unquestionably earned the victory, we will continue to lose if we struggle to score goals.

The red card was a game-changing moment. Malo Gusto’s sending-off ultimately resulted in Myikhaylo Mudryk being sacrificed, who was one of our better players on the day. But we should have been better for the first hour of the game.

It was a home game, after all. We have only won five of our 27 games in 2023, which highlights the severity of the crisis at the club. If this trend continues, the club’s owners may be forced to make difficult decisions in the future.

Our next game is a third-round EFL Cup clash against Brighton & Hove Albion on 27 September. Given our horrific PL run, a good run in the domestic cups and possibly winning them will put a lot of things right.
