Chelsea has received a major boost as Carney Chukwuemeka appears close to returning from his injury layoff.
Chukwuemeka suffered a hit to the left knee during Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat against West Ham last month shortly after scoring his first Premier League goal for the Blues.
The midfielder was seen back training at Cobham in a video posted by teammate Noni Madueke on Instagram. Seeing Chukwuemeka back working out in full training gear in Madueke’s social media post suggests the budding starlet is nearing full fitness again. This comes as welcome news for Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, who will hope to have Chukwuemeka available for selection again soon.
Chelsea signed Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa in 2022 for a transfer fee of £20 million. In that season, the 19-year-old played one match in the starting eleven and 10 matches as a sub. Needless to say, he did not have much chance to prove his worth.
However, this has changed under Pochettino. The Blues are currently undergoing a period of drastic change, choosing to focus more on young blood. Thus the 19-year-old is indeed a good fit for this team.
Getting Chukwuemeka fit and firing again will definitely provide a timely boost for us. Chelsea have struggled to find a good attacking rhythm in recent matches. The energy and flair this attacking midfielder demonstrated early in the season could help ignite our frontline.
The talented Chukwuemeka is a product of Northampton Town and Aston Villa academies. His move to Stamford Bridge is a huge step up for him and he has to ensure, from his end, that he remains fit and at Poch’s disposal in his formative years.
Chelsea should proceed cautiously with easing Chukwuemeka back into action after his layoff. But the latest signs indicate he is making good progress. He played as an attacking midfielder against the Hammers but in his absence, we can expect Cole Palmer to feature in that area later today against Bournemouth.
