As per the Daily Mail, Chelsea have informed Romelu Lukaku to cut £7 million from his annual salary of £17 million to make a transfer to AS Roma feasible after the Blues and Roma held talks.
Both clubs are in negotiations to come to an agreement to sell the striker on loan once again for £7 million, which has seen the Blues tell Lukaku to lower his salary. It now remains to be seen if the Belgian is willing to take the hit.
Chelsea have failed to find a club for the 30-year-old on a permanent move. Now it seems like they will have to once again loan the former Everton striker for another season after Lukaku returned from a season-long loan stint from Inter earlier in the summer.
The former Manchester United striker claimed he was nervous as a deal nears completion between Chelsea and the Serie A club. Lukaku, who has previously played under Jose Mourinho, first at Chelsea and then at Manchester United, could once again be reunited with him at Roma.
There, he might be able to rekindle his form and get his career back on track. It could be the catalyst he needs to resurrect a career that has fallen by the wayside of late.
Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t appear to rate Lukaku and it makes sense for us to move him on as early as possible. Lukaku has a respectable scoring record under Mourinho tallying 33 goals and 11 assists in 76 games. The Portuguese tactician appears to have the Belgian’s strengths on his fingertips and could yet turn him into an elite goalscorer.
Hopefully Lukaku will make sue of the opportunity and lower his salary to secure more game time on the field. At 30 he still has years left in him and could use the Roma stint as a stepping board for further success.
