Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea will face competition from German clubs for Elye Wahi

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are set to face competition from German clubs for the signing of sought-after forward Elye Wahi.

The Blues’ plans are to sign the 20-year-old and then send him on a season-long loan to Strasbourg for further development according to the transfer specialist.

The centre-forward enjoyed a prolific season at Ligue 1 giants Montpellier, tallying 19 goals in 33 games, which is enough to convince the Blues to consider signing him. Given his age, it is safe to say he is one of the most exciting players around.

Besides them, Arsenal are also keen on signing him. But the west London giants will hope to get a deal over the line for the Montpellier forward in the coming weeks. Loaning them out may be a good strategy because for a player like Wahi, it is good to ensure that you have signed him before more clubs join the fray.

It seems like the competition is getting bigger, with German clubs also impressed by the 20-year-old’s performance, and Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea will have to act quickly. Writing in his exclusive CaughtOffside column, he stated:

“Elye Wahi-Chelsea could face competition for this deal as German clubs like Wahi too; the competition is coming from there at the moment. Still, Chelsea are ahead in the race for now, and they will try to get it done this week. Strasbourg would be an option for loan, but not the only one; it will be discussed in the next meetings.”

Wahi is a dynamic forward who is capable of playing from an attacking position in midfield, and Chelsea wouldn’t want to miss out on such fantastic players considering they have shown more emphasis on recruiting youngsters under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s ownership.. Wahi’s numbers are enough to persuade the Blues to go for his purchase.

Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Armando Broja are our first-team options right now. If we don’t sign a new, experienced striker, then signing Wahi and keeping him here for the season wouldn’t be a bad strategy either. He could have a better shot at gametime here, given Arsenal’s stacked frontline which has Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun.
