Chelsea starlet Levi Colwill refuses to be drawn into discussing Liverpool interest

As per Football.London, Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill turned down queries regarding a move to Liverpool during his live Instagram session. This happened when the defender was questioned about moving away from Stamford Bridge, he said: “No football talk, man.”

The 21-year-old is attracting interest from Liverpool despite the Blues claiming the defender is not for sale. Mauricio Pochettino is keen on working with the youngster following a scintillating performance for England in their successful Under 21 European Championship win.

Brighton & Hove Albion were also among the clubs interested in signing a centre-back and also made a bid which the West Londoners turned down. The Blues are expected to offer him a lucrative contract, and Pochettino wants to keep him in his plans for the upcoming campaign.

However, the centre-back’s wish is to be a regular starter for the club at the heart of the defence. It will not be easy given that the likes of Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Thiago Silva, and Trevoh Chalobah are all available.

Pochettino will therefore have to decide who to give preference at the back given the abundance of options he currently has. Playing the likes of Colwill on a regular basis will aid the youngster’s development. It will also help ease him into the role as Thiago Silva’s career enters its twilight.

Fofana and Chalobah had a poor season last term, while Silva is not getting any younger. Surely Chelsea need a long term solution to their centre back woes. Colwill has the potential to become the cornerstone of our rearguard for the upcoming decade.

Since Colwill is one of our top defenders and will be an incredible asset at the back, selling him shouldn’t be a consideration. Chalobah’s future is still up in the air and he might leave. This could give Colwill the opportunity he is seeking to make an impression.

Having sold players such as Mateo Kovacic, Kai Havertz, and Mason Mount, to rival clubs, Chelsea will do well not to repeat it with Colwill. Jurgen Klopp and co could in the years to come make us regret the decision should the 20-year-old join the Reds at Anfield.
