Chelsea make an approach to re-sign Southampton star Tino Livramento

Chelsea, who sold Tino Livramento to Southampton just two years ago, have contacted the Saints about re-signing the youngster in the current summer transfer window.

As per MailOnline, (h/t Metro) The Saints are demanding £38 million for the 20-year-old. The West Londoners have already begun discussions to sign their former player and it remains to be seen if an agreement can be found.

The 20-year-old was sold to the Saints for around £5 million in 2021, but the Blues included a buy-back option of £50 million, which became active this year. While Southampton’s asking price is lower than the buy-back clause, it is still a significant fee for the youngster.

Newcastle United were also keen on landing Livramento and made two bids of £12 million and later £21 million, respectively. However, both fell short and were turned down by Southampton. It is also understood that if Chelsea are able to sign him, they will allow the Saints to keep the right-back on loan for the upcoming season in the Championship.

The 20-year-old, who couldn’t get a chance to make his debut for the Blues first team enjoyed a good start to life at St Mary’s. However, an unfortunate ACL injury has sidelined him for 13 months, largely impacting his development.

Chelsea have also struggled with the right-back position due to Reece James’ recurrent injuries and Cesar Azpilicueta’s diminishing capabilities due to his advanced age. With the latter now on his way to Atletico Madrid, the Blues could do with Livramento’s services despite the incoming Malo Gusto.

Chelsea would be sensible to loan him out and monitor his progress in the Championship for the upcoming season. Given his potential, there is every reason to believe the youngster can follow in Levi Colwill’s shoes.

Due to his long-term injury, Livramento has fallen out of the spotight. But in the 2021-22 season, he played a key part for the Saints as he appeared in 28 Premier League games, and certainly possesses a decent deal of league experience. We run the risk of losing a top right-back if the Blues don’t sign him before Newcastle potentially make a better offer.
