Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos is a subject of interest for Barcelona

As per a tweet from Lucas Pedrosa of Brazilian outlet SBT Sports, Spanish giants Barcelona are interested in signing young Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos in this transfer window.

It is revealed that Chelsea and the player’s representatives have received contacts from Barcelona. Santos is currently in pre-season training at Cobham.

The Blues signed the young Brazilian from Vasco da Gama six months ago itself. They paid £18m to sign him. He is yet to make an appearance for this club at any level after being denied a work permit last season.

Spanish clubs being interested in an exciting young player from South America is nothing new. But, Santos is now a Chelsea player. The Blues can’t just sell him without even giving him an opportunity or two to show what he is all about, can they?

Mauricio Pochettino is one of the best managers at understanding how to get the best out of young players. He could do that with Santos as well.

The 19-year-old is a central midfielder who can operate as a wide midfielder in a flat setup and has played as a defensive midfielder before. He would cover a lot of positions in the team and play a decent part in how Chelsea perform next season.

Having let go of four midfielders in this window, it would be sensible if the club decides not to ship another one out, regardless of what they do in the incoming part.

They are trying their best to sign Moises Caicedo but he is one player. Chelsea have lost four in that department. Moreover, Santos has the talent to do well if thrust with the responsibility of playing regular games.

However tempting an interest from Barcelona from may be, Pochettino and Chelsea should keep Santos and use him next season. It is unwise to give up on him so quickly or even sacrifice him for shot-term monetary gain.
