West Ham United interested in Juventus and former former Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria

Former on-loan Chelsea star Denis Zakaria, who has returned to Juventus, is attracting interest from Premier League rivals West Ham United, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The Switzerland international spent the 2022/23 season on a temporary move at the Stamford Bridge side. However, the Blues decided against triggering the option to buy the midfielder from the Bianconeri.

As things stand, the 26-year-old is back at the Allianz Stadium side. However, he is not in the Old Lady’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

To that end, the Hammers have enquired about and asked for details regarding Zakaria. However, the Irons are not the only team in the race for the Swiss national, with a number of teams eyeing him.

In January 2022, Juventus acquired the midfielder’s services from Borussia Monchengladbach. However, after just six months at the Italian outfit, the 26-year-old was shipped off to Chelsea.

At the West London club, Zakaria did not enjoy the best of spells. The Swiss national rarely featured for the Blues. He made just 11 appearances in all competitions for the Stamford Bridge side, scoring one goal.

West Ham are coming off of a mixed season. David Moyes’ team were underwhelming in the English top flight and struggled in the league. However, the Hammers ended the campaign with the UEFA Europa Conference League. But Manchester City and Arsenal are interested in taking their captain Declan Rice this summer.

As for Chelsea, we have Enzo Fernandez in our ranks at the moment. However, we have seen an exodus from the middle of the park in the ongoing transfer window, with N’Golo Kante leaving and Mateo Kovacic also on the verge of parting ways.

Therefore, the Blues evidently need to bolster their engine room in the coming weeks. We seemingly need reinforcements to have a competitive midfield.

But Zakaria does not look like the answer to our problems. The Swiss national did not do enough during his time at the Stamford Bridge side. Therefore, it remains to be seen where the 26-year-old will lie this summer.
