Simon Philips reveals Chelsea have made Brighton’s Moises Caicedo a priority signing

According to journalist Simon Philips, Chelsea have prioritised Moises Caicedo’s signing and could send Lewi Colwill to Brighton Hove & Albion for another loan stint for his signing.

The midfielder is expected to leave Brighton despite signing a new contract that runs through 2027 since Chelsea have rekindled their interest in him.

And Mauricio Pochettino has also made the decision that he wants a defensive midfielder for next season.

As for Caicedo’s future, Seagulls boss Robert de Zerbi stated that they might lose him once the transfer market opens. Meanwhile, Arsenal are still interested in purchasing the 21-year-old.

The youngster has impressed during his spell at Brighton and helped them reach the Europa League for next season.

And most recently, (h/t Football.London) Philips provided an update on the future of Ecuador and asserted on Chelsea-News.co.:

“And incidentally, yesterday I was told by a top source that Chelsea have placed Caicedo as their number one priority for midfield this summer. This has been approved by the decision makers, and Pochettino says Chelsea want Caicedo and will move for him very soon.”

It will be a milestone for us to sign a player who has excelled in the Premier League for a club with lower competition. At the age of just 21, Caicedo has shown his credentials this season and assisted the Seagulls in earning a spot in the UEFA Europa League.

The Ecuadorian signings should be a priority if N’Golo Kante were to go, as his playing style is comparable to the Frenchman’s. Moreover, if we are able to pull off Manuel Ugarte’s signing as well, then a midfield of Enzo Fernandez, Caicedo, and Ugarte will be truly terrific, and they will sort out the club’s midfield issues for many years.

More Chelsea News:

Let’s wait and see how things pan out, but this seems like a safe signing to make, even if the finances in the deal could be steep. It wouldn’t be a bad investment given the player’s age and quality, but it does make you think if we are focussing too much on youth over experience.
