Rio Ferdinand urges Manchester United to beat Manchester City to Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic

Rio Ferdinand has encouraged Manchester United to cease their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong and hijack Manchester City’s move for Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic.

Kovacic and Chelsea are prepared to part ways, and City have already begun conversations with the midfielder about a possible transfer. An experienced player, the Croatian is well acquainted with the demands of the Premier League.

Despite numerous rejections from the Dutch midfielder, United’s persistent pursuit of De Jong has remained intact. It is debatable if Barcelona will entertain a summer offer for the player and we are better off looking elsewhere.

Mason Mount, who might depart the club during the summer transfer window has officially reached an agreement with Manchester United. While personal terms have been agreed on, both sides will need to reach an agreement.

And just like Mount, Kovacic has 12 months left on his contract and is already on the radar of several European clubs. If the deal goes through, the Blues might lose two of their top midfielders to both Manchester clubs.

However, their former defender has now advised United to give up on De Jong and hijack Croatia’s move to Manchester City. (h/t Mirror) Speaking to his YouTube channel, FIVE, he claimed:

“It sounds too difficult and too complicated [to sign De Jong], move on. I think Kovacic has got a year left. I like him… He’s different to what we’ve got.”

This could be really bad for Chelsea if a single club is able to swoop for two of our midfielders. Selling your best players to rival teams is one of the worst moves you can make, yet Kovacic’s decision to join a new league may appear reasonable, knowing the Croatian international wants to try new challenges.

More Chelsea News:

And selling him this season will be a wise decision considering that we cannot afford to lose any of our players, so it is preferable to make a profit from their sale, which will balance our pay bill and also enable us to sign new players via transfers.
