Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool have asked Southampton about Chelsea target Romeo Lavia

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have asked about Southampton star Romeo Lavia deal amid interest from Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea.

Arsenal have already begun talks to sign the youngster from the Saints, but no bid has been made so far. Meanwhile, Man United and Chelsea are keen on signing the Belgian, but no talks have taken place so far.

Southampton, who were relegated last season, are holding on to £45 million but could now enhance his price as interest from clubs is growing. A bidding war works to their advantage as they seek to cash in on one of their best players.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakout season last time around, and his excellent performance has drawn interest from several top Premier League clubs.

The Belgium midfielder joined from Manchester City for around £10.5m. While they added a clause in the deal that said if the midfielder remained until 2024, then they could opt to sign him for £40m.

However, it shows that Lavia could leave the club in the current summer window after clubs lining up for his services. After losing N’Golo Kante, Chelsea could benefit from adding a defensive midfielder for the upcoming campaign.

Although the Blues are more focused on signing Brighton & Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo, As mentioned by Romano, the West Londoners have yet to start any talks with him.

Lavia is a terrific addition because he is young and has experience playing in the Premier League. This means he is familiar with the requirements for success in the English League. However, because with United, Arsenal, and Liverpool in the fray, a deal might not prove straightforward.

All three could be in pole position as they are offering him European competition while we start our rebuilding phase. However, Chelsea, if they can get their act together can cook something special under Mauricio Pochettino. Whether Lavia ends up in west London or not depends a lot on how well we can sell him our project.
