Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech, who is close to joining Saudi club Al-Nassr has failed his medical raising his doubts over a move to the Middle East club in the current summer transfer window.
According to Italian outlet Footmercato, (h/t Daily Mail) Ziyech’s transfer to Al-Nassr has been thrown into question due to the 30-year-old’s fitness issues. It comes as a setback for the player and the club given that the switch was a win-win for all parties.
A knee ailment was discovered during his medical examination by the Saudi club which has complicated his probable switch to Cristiano Ronaldo’s side. It now remains to be seen what the next steps will be.
Following the sale of many players during the current transfer window, Chelsea have maintained its mass exodus of unwanted players in full force this summer. Ziyech, who came close to joining Paris Saint-Germain last January is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
The former Ajax Amsterdam player is among the players who are making a move to Saudi Arabia after his teammates Kalidou Koulibaly joined Al-Hilal, Edouard Mendy signed for Al-Ahli, and N’Golo Kante made a move to Al-Ittihad. Other teammates, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, are also linked with a move to the Saudi league.
The Blues have also agreed to the sale of Mason Mount to Manchester United, while Kai Havertz has joined Arsenal Arsenal, and Mateo Kovacic has moved to Manchester City. It now remains to be seen who we bring in.
Meanwhile, Ziyech has already struggled to register game time in previous seasons and came close to leaving the club on loan in the winter window when his move to Paris Saint-Germain failed. The winger has struggled to make an impact at Chelsea and a parting of the ways could help him get his career back on track.
If his transfer to the Middle East club is unsuccessful, it will be a major hurdle given that his intention is to leave the club. Hopefully a solution can be found in the coming days regarding the situation.
Ziyech will struggle to get playing time if he stays because he only made 18 Premier League appearances last season. It would be preferable to sell Ziyech than to keep him for the upcoming season. Staying put would be a setback ofr both club and the player.
