According to The Telegraph (h/t Football London), Chelsea are ready to table a second bid for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.
The Ecuadorian star has been a long-term target for Chelsea and is one of the primary targets for this summer as Todd Boehly looks set to build a solid squad under Mauricio Pochettino’s first season at the club. A proven Premier League talent, Caicedo will not need bedding in period at Stamford Bridge.
While there have been plenty of departures over the past few weeks and the trend looks set to continue, the club has also been working towards bringing in players as well. Selling well will not just help us overcome FFP restrictions but also re-invest in the playing squad.
Caicedo is at the top of the list as the club looks set to pair him up in an enticing midfield combination with Enzo Fernandez. The couple have both quality and athleticism, potentially forming the base for our midfield for the upcoming decade.
Brighton rejected Chelsea’s initial offer for Caicedo with the Seagulls demanding in excess of £80m for the midfielder. Having signed a new deal only earlier this year, it is fair to say Brighton hold the advantage when it comes to negotiations.
The only issue concerning the transfer would be the amount that the club would be allowed to spend in the transfer market, after having spent huge amounts of money the previous year.
In complying with the Financial Fair Play regulations, the club needs to sell players and raise funds to balance the books before being in a position to look at additional reinforcements. Caicedo is one of the top talents in the league and has the potential to be one of the best in the league in the coming years if provided with the correct path for growth.
Nevertheless, it does seem like the club is serious about bringing in the Ecuadorian and look set to test Brighton’s resilience with another bid which would be close to the fee demanded by the club.
