“What we need”- Raheem Sterling reveals high regard for Chelsea-bound Pochettino

Raheem Sterling claims Mauricio Pochettino is the manager Chelsea need

Raheem Sterling asserted that Mauricio Pochettino will bring leadership to Chelsea and that he fits the profile of the manager that the Blues are seeking.

On Monday night, the ex-Tottenham Hotspur manager was officially announced as Chelsea’s permanent manager for the upcoming season. This comes following the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United that brought to an end Frank Lampard’s dreadful interim spell.

The Argentine’s appointment comes after extensive discussions spread over several months. The 51-year-old will begin working on July 1 and will have much to do.

And after being hired, the former Manchester City forward has already expressed his optimism, believing Pochettino’s approach is well-suited for the side. Hopefully, his words prove prophetic in the years to come.

When asked after the arrival of Pochettino, Sterling give his thoughts on Chelsea’s naming Pochettino as their next manager via Arab News (h/t Metro):

‘‘From his time before at Tottenham, I heard a conversation about him, and he’s the exact person that we need. He will bring leadership; he will challenge players physically and mentally, and I think he is going to come here and he is going to have the personality that everyone is going to respect. That’s what we need—someone in charge.’’

This is the sense of optimism we need for next season, and hopefully what Sterling has said comes true as Pochettino will need the support of players and fans to change the course of the club’s fortunes. While we do have the tools, the lack of leadership has been a major concern.

However, it will not be easy, so the players will need to cooperate with him in every aspect. A lot will depend on whether they buy into his grueling training sessions.

Meanwhile, Sterling, despite having a poor start and an injury-ridden season, has been decent and is the club’s second-scorer with six goals and three assists in 26 Premier League games, and under Pochettino he will be expecting to have a more significant season.
