Paul Scholes feels Chelsea will need to revamp their back four

Incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino will need to rebuild his back four in order to be competitive next season according to Manchester United legend Paul Scholes.

The Blues’ defence has clearly been shaky this season, with several defenders struggling with form and fitness. This has seen us concede several silly goals that have cost us dear.

The Blues are presently 12th in the Premier League table, and they have also struggled to produce goals upfront. They have only 37 goals over the course of the season, which is the joint-fourth lowest in the league.

And, after spending £600 million in two transfer windows, only a few players shone. Two managers have been sacked and Pochettino faces an uphill task in his pursuit of.

Currently, Frank Lampard is the Blues’ job as interim manager until the end of the season. With Pochettino set to be appointed as the permanent head coach in the summer, we are set for a rebuild and a crucial summer.

However, Scholes has already given his thoughts on where the ex-Espanyol manager will have to make changes; while speaking to Premier League production, (h/t Daily Mail) he said:

”I think he [Pochettino] is going to have to buy a couple of centre-halves, possibly a right-back, possibly a left-back, a whole new back four. Scholes told Premier League productions. I’m not sure about either goalkeeper.’’

It would be illogical for us to buy additional centre-backs since we currently have enough of them, and Lewi Colwill will also arrive next season following his loan spell at Brighton. While we have Malo Gusto and Reece James at right-back and Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell on the left.

Lewis Hall has shown remarkable performances in recent matches, indicating that he may be competing with Chilwell and Cucurella for the left-back spot. But the options at centre-back leave much to be desired. Kalidou Koulibaly looks out of his depth while Thiago Silva is not getting any younger. Wesley Fofana has struggled with injuries while Benoit Badiashile is also struggling with injury.

However, our primary signings for next season should be a solid striker, goalie, and defensive midfielder, as these are the positions we were short of this season, negatively impacting our campaign.
