Frank Lampard does not hold back when asked about the challenges in front of his Chelsea successor

When asked about Mauricio Pochettino’s job at Chelsea next season, interim manager Frank Lampard gave a tongue-in-cheek response.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager will take control of the Blues next season. It will be a long and busy summer for him considering the enormity of the task ahead of him following Chelsea’s disastrous season.

Since Lampard was appointed interim manager, the West Londoners have only taken four points from their last nine games. They are now in 12th place in the Premier League, with one game remaining until the end of their dreadful season. And they were recently defeated 4-1 by Manchester United.

After the game, when asked if Chelsea’s job was more difficult this season than it had been in the previous 20 years, (h/t Mirror) the former Blues midfielder replied:

“When I took it, the first time I came, I probably got the job because a lot of top managers didn’t want the job. I know that for a fact, it was a big part of it, but I enjoy the process, and I enjoy coming in.”

And before leaving, the 44-year-old gave a sarcastic reply to the reporter. Whether he was trying to bait the media or not is unclear but Lampard’s record in the front office does him little justice.

“I wish the new manager well. It’s his problem, I guess. Is that the headline you wanted?”

There are several ways to look at where things went wrong at Chelsea this season, but it all starts with the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel. The German has gone on to win the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich while we have failed to even qualify for Europe.

But we must now move on since the game against Newcastle United remains the final game of the season. And with Pochettino’s arrival, he will inherit a broken group, and we feel he is the ideal manager to put things in order and make this squad secure, no matter how long it takes, and perhaps the owners and supporters will support him despite the dismal results.
