Graham Potter speaks out about Thomas Tuchel and his efforts to sign Chelsea coach Anthony Barry

According to Football.ondon, Chelsea boss Graham Potter has opened up on former boss Thomas Tuchel and his efforts to land Blues coach Anthony Barry.

Tuchel started the 2022/23 campaign in charge of Chelsea, but was let go mid-season following a run of poor results. The German was replaced by former Brighton & Hove Albion boss, Potter. While he has had his moments, the Englishman is yet to make a lasting impact at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel, on the other hand, has now replaced Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern Munich and has already set his sights at raiding Stamford Bridge. Barry, a coach at Chelsea is being eyed as a potential addition to Tuchel’s backroom staff at the Allianz Arena.

The Bayern boss made his feelings on the matter clear to the public and it has not gone down well in London. Chelsea are unhappy with the Bundesliga champions’ antics and have also asked Barry to stay away while his future is resolved.

Potter has now given his thoughts on the matter and has refused to give it much credence. Having made the switch between cubs mid-season himself, there is a certain sense of irony in the 47-year-old speaking on the matter.

“I know this job, it is a tough one and sometimes you say things you don’t mean to say or that you regret. I have certainly done the same myself. I don’t concern myself too much with what other managers say.”

Potter appears to have no qualms about Tuchel’s antics and believes each person is accountable for their actions. The Chelsea boss is well aware of his predecessor’s success at the club and is in the know that those at the Bridge still have respect for the German.

“I have huge respect for Thomas, as a coach, as a person. I don’t know him well. But everybody here speaks about him very, very highly. My respect is big for him, Like everybody they conduct themselves how they want to and that is fine by me.”

Barry is held in high regard at Chelsea and one can understand the club’s reluctance in losing him. Ultimately the decision comes down to the coach and we hope he is open to staying put at Stamford Bridge.

Players and staff come and go and it is natural within club football for employees to switch allegiances. As long as we ensure the continuity of the club’s long-term plans, it does not matter who comes in and who goes.
