Chelsea consider shock move for former Liverpool winger Sadio Mane

Former Liverpool winger and current Bayern Munich star Sadio Mane is believed to be on Chelsea’s transfer radar.

This is according to Football Insider (h/t ESPN), who claim that the Senegal international is being eyed by the Blues within a year after leaving Liverpool. Mane’s time in Munich has been disappointing.

The former Southampton winger has failed to produce the goods on a consistent basis and was caught up in a huge controversy last month when he allegedly punched teammate Leroy Sane in the face after a 3-0 UEFA Champions League defeat against Manchester City.

It is said that the Bavarian giants are open to a sale if they recoup the majority of the 35million Pounds in transfer fees they paid the Reds at the end of last season to sign him. The 31-year-old is certainly no alien to Premier League football.

Let’s go for it

Mane won every major trophy during his stint in Liverpool. He registered 120 goals and 48 assists in 269 games for the Reds and even this season, has 12 goals and five assists in 34 games across competitions for Bayern.

Clearly, he knows where the net is and can also supply assists to his teammates. Mane’s role has changed recently. With time, the stamina and pace will naturally drop.

He has shifted from the left wing to playing centrally but of course, can operate equally effectively on both flanks. The aforementioned sum of money would be a steal for a player of his experience, versatility and class.

For Mane, this will mean a return to England where he made his name, playing for the Saints and the Reds. Our goal-scoring troubles up front are obvious and we could use an experienced player up front to get us firing again.

More Chelsea News:

Youngsters like Noni Madueke and Mykhaylo Mudryk can also learn a lot from the 95-cap Senegal international. It could give them time to properly develop while Raheem Sterling and Mane occupy two positions in attack. There is no major reason why we shouldn’t go for this deal.
