Chelsea hold talks with Mauricio Pochettino as managerial search goes on

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have held initial talks with former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino as the search for a new manager continues.

It is reported that the Argentine is one of the five candidates listed at this stage of the process. The Blues were interested in getting the former Paris-Saint Germain after sacking Thomas Tuchel back in September 2022 as well but went with Graham Potter at the time.

Now, with Potter gone, the cycle of finding a new manager is taking place once again. Did the club hierarchy make a mistake by not hiring Pochettino all those months ago? We would never know the answer to that.

The former Espanyol player has rejected offers from various European clubs in the last few months. He will assess his options in the summer before making a final decision.

A few days ago, Gary Neville claimed that the 51-year-old is the ideal candidate for Chelsea going forward. The club have also held talks with Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann. Tottenham Hotspur will contest the appointment of the former as they are also in search of a new manager.

We saw how well Pochettino did during his long tenure at Spurs. But, he did not take that final step and win them the trophies. His team in north London went close many times but seem to buckle under extreme pressure.

Chelsea, despite a horrendous season, is a club that thrives on winning trophies on a yearly basis. So, the next appointment should be of someone who can guarantee silverware and stable running of the team in terms of squad harmony and tactics.

Irrespective of who becomes the next Blues manager, his first job would be to trim the bloated squad that has become a problem, as per Thiago Silva.
