Chelsea boss Graham Potter triggered the turnaround in form with ‘heart-to-heart’ talks

According to a report in The Telegraph, Chelsea boss Graham Potter turned the team’s form around with ‘heart-to-heart’ talks with players and the coaching staff.

Chelsea were staring down the barrel following the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Potter was on edge and apparently had the next two games to save his job at Stamford Bridge.

Since then, the manager has led the team to wins over Leeds United and more importantly, over Borussia Dortmund. Although it is just two wins after a long gap, the mood feels different.

The report states that Potter had personal chats with the players, staff and members of the board, including Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbaly.

He also took big decisions by dropping Hakim Ziyech and Mykhaylo Mudryk from the starting XI in the last two games and went with the experience of Raheem Sterling with Kai Havertz and Joao Felix.

Despite not getting the numbers for now, Felix has been one of Chelsea’s best forwards in the last few games. Following the heart-to-heart talks, players got convinced of what the manager wanted to do.

In the absence of Thiago Silva for such a big game against Dortmund, he picked Mateo Kovacic as the captain of the night. The Croatian responded to that in style with an excellent performance.

We always say football is a results business. One can see the palpable change in mood after two wins, the second leading the club to the quarter-final of the Champions League.

More Chelsea News:

The key now is to back it up with a consistent run of positive results in the coming games. Once that happens, Potter can start winning back the fans he lost not long ago. Chelsea face Leicester City away from home on Saturday in a tricky league game.
