“If Roman Abramovich was still the Chelsea owner”- Pundit makes Graham Potter claim after string of poor results

Tony Cascarino believes Graham Potter would have been sacked under previous Chelsea owner

According to Football.London, former Chelsea striker and pundit Tony Cascarino believes that Graham Potter would have been sacked three times under the previous club owner.

The pressure is ramped up on Potter following Chelsea’s defeat at home to relegation-threatened Southampton. That result means the Blues have won only two of their last 14 games.

It is also the sixth time in 11 games since the World Cup that they have not scored a goal in the game. They are 13th in the league table when it comes to goals scored (23 in 23 games).

Despite all the pressure and listening to the boos at Stamford Bridge after the full-time whistle on Saturday, Telegraph has reported that the Chelsea owners are not willing to sack Potter yet. One of their reasons is that the manager did not have a pre-season with the squad, hence he deserves one.

While that approach is admirable, we are talking about one of the biggest clubs in Europe struggling to buy a win against any team.

Cascarino believes that Potter would have been sacked at least three times if the club was under the ownership of Roman Abramovich. We all know how ruthless the Russian was in terms of chopping and changing managers based on the results they got.

If Roman Abramovich was still the Chelsea owner, Graham Potter would have been sacked on three different occasions by now  His side’s first-half performance in the 1-0 home defeat by Southampton was abysmal, and losing to the Premier League’s bottom club is simply unacceptable.

“Even with Toddy Boehly’s ownership group now running Chelsea, I cannot see Potter being afforded much more patience. The club have spent more than £500 million since last summer, bringing in some of the best talent around.”

Although that method worked wonders for Chelsea in the past, the patient approach is not a bad one too. The only caveat is that Potter will have to start showing signs of improvement for earning time and a chance to spend a pre-season with the squad.
