Mason Mount has just a year to go on his current Chelsea deal (Transfermarkt), but because negotiations for an extension have stagnated and a possible sale might be in the works.
However, it has occurred at a time when the entire club has battled on the field, Mount has also struggled with his form. Chelsea have been advised the 24-year-old shouldn’t leave the Blues during the summer transfer window, due to the uncertainty surrounding his future. The West Londoner midfielder has already been linked with a move to Liverpool and Manchester United.
There may be optimism that there is a middle ground for an agreement between the two sides with some time left until the summer transfer window. But there may be issues with game time and pay that will need to be addressed if Todd Boehly wants to move forward with his project.
Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, has addressed the issue and defended the 24-year-old midfielder’s demeanour in the locker room amid contract negotiations. In a press conference, (h/t Football.London), Potter wanted the England international to remain and praised his professionalism.
“He has reacted really well, as I would expect.”
“He is a fantastic lad; he is great in the dressing room. He wants to support the team and help his teammates; he is ready to play. You saw that with how he came on against West Ham and Dortmund and had an impact. No problems with Mason.”
We must make a choice regarding Mount’s future at Chelsea, as his contract negotiations are currently a fiasco. Despite his poor performance this season, the 24-year-old is still a useful player and brings a great deal of experience to the midfield when he plays.
More so, despite the heavy investment in the playing squad, it pays to have players who bleed Blue for the cause on hand.
He is already being watched by rival clubs, so if we decide to sell him, we must establish a high asking price because he is still young and might be a key player for the opposition.
