Manchester City interested in signing Chelsea star Ben Chilwell in the summer

According to The Times (h/t Metro), Manchester City are keen on signing Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell in the coming summer transfer window.

There has been a cloud over the future of the Premier League champions after the Premier League statement on Monday that blamed them for breaking various financial rules in the last 14 years.

Amidst all that uncertainty, City are looking to bolster their squad in the summer by signing Chilwell. Having let Joao Cancelo go to Bayern Munich in January, it is understandable why they are looking at the possibility to sign the Chelsea star.

Chilwell has had a disruptive time as a Chelsea player in the last year or so. He missed the second half of last season due to an ACL injury while missing the World Cup and the subsequent games for the club after picking up a hamstring injury.

The England international returned to action against Fulham last week. He would be hoping to get some rhythm going in the coming weeks and not pick up any more injuries.

Despite the injuries, we all know the qualities the 26-year-old possesses. He is one of the best when it comes to running up and down the field on the left-hand side and delivering quality on both sides of the field.

We know City were interested in Chilwell in the past too, but Chelsea stole the march and signed him from Leicester City in the summer of 2020.

Should the Blues be looking to sell the Englishman in the summer? No. Not only is he a very good player, but his replacement Marc Cucurella, who was signed last summer, hasn’t been good enough so far.

More Chelsea News:

The potentiality of the deal may also depend on whether Chelsea qualify for next season’s Champions League. They have to make sure that happens to keep their hand strong in the transfer market.
