Dortmund boss on why domestic form does not count in the Champions League ahead of Chelsea clash

As quoted by The Independent, Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic has made it clear that domestic form does not count when they face Chelsea in the Champions League last-16 tie.

Chelsea have just won two games in the nine played since the resumption of the season after the World Cup. The last time they won an away game was back in October when they sneaked past RB Salzburg in Austria.

Dortmund, on the other hand, have won all of their six games played since the resumption of their campaign. It is quite a change in fortunes because they lost the last two games before the season halted for the World Cup.

But, looking ahead to the first leg of the last-16 in Germany, here’s what Dortmund boss Terzic had to say about the form (h/t Independent):

“In this competition, what has happened in the league in recent weeks does not count. It’s back to square one. We want to test ourselves at a high level across the two games. We want to prepare for that in the best possible way and put in a really good performance.”

Chelsea have no option but to go into this tie forgetting about what has happened on the domestic front – be it in the league or the cups. This is the knockout stage of the Champions League. The team that delivers on the nights that matter will go very far in the competition.

Although we do not have the same manager in charge, some of the squad members can fall back on how they punched above their weight to win this trophy in 2021.

The situation might be different, but the narrative around Chelsea is the same they do not have any chance of progressing in this competition.

More Chelsea News:

Graham Potter’s men can use that underdog tag as a motivation to come out firing and delivering the punches required. Moreover, with how precariously we are placed in the league, the chances of playing Champions League football next season can only be kept alive by winning it this time.
