Christopher Nkunku reveals what his best position is ahead of Chelsea arrival in the summer

In an interview with Football Manager, as quoted by Football.London, RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku, who is due to arrive at Chelsea in the summer, has talked about his best position on the field.

The France international, who is set to join the Blues once this season is over for a deal that cost just over £50m which was agreed upon in the latter of 2022, has been exceptional for Leipzig in the last couple of years.

Nkunku is a versatile forward who can play in multiple positions, be it as a number 10, left-winger or as number nine. But, when asked about his best position, here’s what the 25-year-old said (h/t Football.London):

“I think that’s a position that suits me well. Close to the goal behind a striker. That describes me as a player nicely so I always like playing in this role.”

Since the start of last season till date, Nkunku has scored 32 goals and assisted 17 in 49 Bundesliga appearances. He was named the best player in the German league last season.

In the last 18 months, he has played most of his games as a second striker or a number 10. Combine that with the remarkable numbers he has produced, it is understandable why he prefers that position as his best.

Chelsea signed Joao Felix on loan for the rest of this season, a player who likes to operate in areas quite similar to Nkunku, although differing in attributes.

So, Graham Potter may have some idea on how to make the best of a player who is better suited to play as a number 10 before incorporating Nkunku into the side next season.

More Chelsea News:

We cannot wait to have the Frenchman playing for us as he is an exciting player who is entering the peak of his career in terms of age and consistency of performance. There aren’t many doubts about how well he will do in a Chelsea shirt.
