Chelsea youngster Carney Chukwuemeka reveals plans for the rest of this season

As quoted by Birmingham Mail, young Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka revealed his plans and ambitions for the remainder of this season.

Chukwuemeka, who was signed by Chelsea from Aston Villa for a deal worth around £20m last summer, has had a few games from the start since the turn of the year.

The 19-year-old has played a total of 214 minutes for the Blues senior side this season, having taken some part in five of the last six league games under Graham Potter.

Talking about his plans, ambitions and how he needs to stay grounded, here’s Chukwuemeka (h/t Birmingham Mail):

“Just being myself really, believing in myself because I know what I can do.

“It’s been an amazing few weeks for me personally. There’s a lot more that I can do. I’m not where I want to be yet so I have to keep working.

“I want to be at the top, playing week in, week out, the starting XI. I always set myself targets before each season, have it on my notes and stuff.

“I’d say that I came here like knowing what I wanted to achieve this season and right now I’d say that I am working towards it, I’m not getting there yet but I’m getting there.”

The former Aston Villa player, who rejected a new contract offer from the west Midlands side before joining Chelsea in the summer, is a central midfielder by trade but can operate as a number 10 as well. In some of the games for the Blues, he has been used as a left winger as well.

The England U-20 international is a talented young player who is secured on the ball, can create chances in the final third, works hard off the ball and is physically strong.

Chukwuemeka has to deal with increased competition for places following new arrivals in the January window.

Having seen Chelsea making a host of signings in the January window, it must have been a bit disheartening for him because most of the new players are of positions he likes to play in.

Despite that, it is good to see that Chukwuemeka is in high spirits and aims to get better to earn that spot in the XI consistently. With the competition for places increased following the January window, he may have to work extra hard to keep himself afloat in the manager’s eyes.

More Chelsea News:

It is an important period for the player and the club as we embark on the second half of this season. The former is young and has time on his hands. The same cannot be said for the latter if the results do not change even after heavy lifting in the transfer market.
