Transfer News: Chelsea handed blow in pursuit of Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko

Chelsea have been handed a huge blow in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko as Sport (h/t Football London) claim that the youngster only has two options: either renew with the German side or move to Barcelona for free in the summer.

Moukoko sees his current contract expire in the summer and has been linked with a number of clubs including the Blues, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United.

However, if the claim is true then the 18-year-old will not be Premier League bound in the summer, but will instead join La Liga giants Barcelona and that too on a free transfer.

Graham Potter has seen his attack struggle up-front in front of goal. The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic have all failed to prove themselves to be consistent in front of goal so far this season.

Such a lack of attacking threat has cost us this season dearly with the west London side currently sitting tenth on the table with 25 points and having scored only 20 goals in 16 league games- the lowest among the top 10 sides.

Moukoko is young and has shown great potential in Germany. The 18-year-old has established himself a regular for the Black & Yellow and has featured in 22 games for them in all competitions, scoring six and assisting another six in the process.

The striker has already shown that sky is the limit for him and at such a young age too. Securing his signature would not only help in solving the problem up front, but also seal that department for at least a decade.

However, with the recent report suggesting that the Catalonia giants are leading the race for his signature, it will be wise for the Blues to step up their pursuit for the player. It remains to be seen if the west London side can secure the youngster’s signature in the coming days or months.

More Chelsea News:

The prospect of playing for Barcelona has swayed the heads of some of the best footballers in the past. Hopefully, thhe Germany international is able to resist it and is open to giving Chelsea’s project – one that is evidently focussing on youngsters – a thought.
