Timo Werner warns Christopher Nkunku of the pressure once he joins Chelsea

Christopher Nkunku’s teammate Timo Werner has forewarned the player that he will be under immense stress at Chelsea and that he must remain true to his potential.

This comes after Chelsea were able to meet Nkunku’s buy-out clause last summer to complete the deal. Although the value of the agreement is unclear, estimates suggest that it cost about £60 million to sign the player.

The French forward has been warned by Werner that he won’t have much time to get accustomed to the league and that there would be a significant amount of expectations from him. The 25-year-old has excelled in the Bundesliga, scoring 12 goals and dishing out two assists in 15 games for RB Leipzig.

The former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player also leads the league scoring charts. Werner, meanwhile, played a respectable season at West London but was frequently criticised for his finishing. After a mixed time in west London, he was shipped back to Leipzig last summer.

Timo Werner not happy about how he was perceived at Chelsea.

The 26-year-old spent two seasons at Chelsea and was able to put up a respectable number of goals and assists as he registered 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 games for the Blues.

While speaking in an interview with BILD (via Metro.UK), the Germany international said:

“Everyone has to have their own experience. I had a very good first year; the second was so-so. I can tell him from positive and negative experiences whether he should move.”

“At a club like that, you don’t play like you did at RB Leipzig, because there’s even more competition—not only on a sporting level but also on another level, in the mental area.”

Despite the fact that not every player can adjust to one of the toughest leagues, these are hardly encouraging indicators from a teammate who wants the best for his peers.

And seeing that Werner was not able to stamp his authority at Stamford Bridge, the French player will certainly be ready to punch above his weight and will not take the league lightly. He can certainly learn from Werner’s experience and put it to use himself.

And it’s acceptable if he doesn’t adjust right away; the club must be patient with him. He has shown in the past that he is perfectly capable of playing anywhere in midfield and attack.

So first, we must carve out the perfect position for him when he comes here and help him adjust to it. Moulding him as a centre-forward, as he has been at Leipzig, can prove to be the most beneficial as that is the area we seem to be struggling in.
