Championship boss confirms Chelsea starlet’s loan spell is as good as over

Hull City manager confirms the end of the loan spell for Chelsea youngster Harvey Vale

Speaking to BBC Humberside, as quoted by Hull Live, Hull City manager Liam Rosenior has confirmed that the loan spell of Chelsea youngster Harvey Vale is on the verge of ending.

Vale joined Hull on the deadline day of the summer window on a season-long loan deal. He has not gotten enough game time so far.

The 19-year-old has played just two Championship games so far, resulting in him being on the pitch for only 76 minutes. He made one FA Cup appearance, in the defeat to Fulham. The England U-20 captain may have wanted to play a bit more than that to make this loan spell count.

Here’s what Rosenior said when asked about the possible ending of Vale’s spell at the MKM Stadium (h/t Hull Live):

“We are on the verge of officially ending his [Harvey Vale] loan. That was a collaborative decision. That’s not Harvey wanted to leave this club, and that’s something where we felt for his development at this stage of his career, he needs the minutes and he needs first team football.

“I can’t guarantee that with the great squad I’ve got here. Good luck to him, he’s a lovely lad, great kid and he’s got a lot of potential.”

Vale is a talented young midfielder whose preferred position is to play as a number 10, but is comfortable operating as a central midfielder or as a wide midfielder.

If we skip the stats of this season because of how less he has played, he did score five goals and assisted three in 22 appearances in Premier League 2 last season. He made his senior Chelsea debut last season as well, in the Carabao Cup.

The Blues youth product, whose contract at Stamford Bridge lasts until the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt), is now at an age where he needs first-team minutes and experience to take that next step in his development. It is fair on Rosenior’s part to get this point across while talking about ending his loan spell at Hull.

With all the players Chelsea are signing under Todd Boehly, it feels unlikely that Vale is going to get many minutes here. So, the club needs to find someone who can take him on loan and guarantee a certain percentage of minutes he will play.
