Speaking in an interview as quoted by the Independent, Graham Potter has revealed that he has received fantastic support from the Chelsea owners in the aftermath of a string of losses as the Blues boss.
The former Brighton manager had a good start to life as the Blues manager but things quickly got messy. Chelsea just could not buy a win towards the end of the first half of the season and were struggling.
To be honest, the break could not have come at a better time for Potter. He now had the chance to rest, reset and restart preparations with whoever remained of the Blues squad and instil his ideas in the team.
Potter admitted that he would have loved to go into the holidays on the back of a couple of wins and could not stop thinking about the club even when he was away on a holiday with his wife.
The manager will know that Chelsea have historically been a very unforgiving club and that he needs results to keep the job. Otherwise, the Blues do not think twice before sacking their manager.
Speaking about the situation, Potter has revealed the fantastic support that the Chelsea owners have given him and that he cannot be happier about that.
“I would rather have gone on holiday with a couple of wins behind me, because I probably would have been better company for my poor wife. [I have] fantastic support. I’m really looking forward to the weeks and the months and the years ahead”
Potter knows he needs results to stay in his job as the boss of Chelsea. He does not look beyond his former manager to know that even a Champions League trophy is not sufficient to keep your job here at Stamford Bridge.
The former Brighton boss will be hoping that he can inspire his side to a better second half to the season. They are not in a really precarious position and can still challenge for quite a few trophies.
Let’s see how Potter goes about reviving this Chelsea team. He knows how important it is if he wants to continue having the ‘fantastic support’ that he is talking about.
