Chelsea fear Real Madrid might use Luka Modric to convince Josko Gvardiol to Spain

According to the Mirror, Chelsea are keen on signing World Cup star Josko Gvardiol in January but fear that Real Madrid might use Luka Modric as a secret weapon to tempt the RB Leipzig man to Madrid.

Gvardiol in this World Cup in Qatar showed why he is so highly rated and was arguably the best defender of the tournament. Although he made a mistake against Messi in the semifinals, it was the only blip in an almost flawless tournament.

The RB Leipzig defender is on the radar of a number of clubs. Chelsea know that they will not be alone in their interest and it is highly like that Real Madrid are not the only club keen on him.

Gvardiol is just 20 years old but he shows maturity that is far beyond his age. He is composed, and great at playing out of the back but also very solid defensively and has the pace to recover in situations.

It’s very difficult to find a defender this all-rounded at such a young age but Gvardiol is an exception. He would be amazing at any club he ends up at next and the Blues will be hoping that it is with them.

Chelsea fear that Real Madrid might use the Luka Modric factor to tempt the player to come to Spain. The Croatian legend could help Los Blancos secure a player who can be in their defence for ages to come.

However, the Blues must not forget that we have our own counter-weapon in Mateo Kovacic. The Croatian midfielder can help Chelsea secure the signing of a player they so desperately want and they can think of this option.

The Blues have made a number of centre-back reinforcements recently but with Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta and Kalidou Koulibaly all on the wrong side of their 30s, it makes sense for the Blues to secure someone like Gvardiol.

More Chelsea News:

It will not be easy for Chelsea to shake off the competition and land the talented player but if they manage to do so, it will be a signing that can define our defence for years to come.
