Chelsea are still in talks with Russian side Dynamo Moscow to sign midfielder Arsen Zakharyan. This is according to Fabrizio Romano via Caught Offside (h/t Metro).
The Blues wanted to sign the 19-year-old in the summer and were even willing to pay his £12.6 million release clause. However, the west London club were blocked from doing so due to sanctions on Russia by the British government, barring British clubs to give money to Russian clubs.
The situation has not been resolved yet, but the Blues continue to remain in their pursuit. The club is still in talks with Dynamo Moscow and discussions are still ongoing between the player and the clubs to get the deal done.
Zakharyan made it clear that he is keen on moving to west London last month. There were reports that the midfielder could switch nationality to help a move, but that is something the player does not want to do.
A very talented attacking midfielder, he made his debut for his club at the mere age of 17 years old. He also became the youngest outfield player in his country’s history when he made his debut at the international stage at 18 years.
The 19-year-old has been in fine form this season, scoring three and assisting six times in 20 games for his side so far in all competitions. Chelsea spent good money in getting youngsters to the club this summer.
Carney Chukwuemeka was bought in to strengthen the midfield, which already consisted of Mason Mount and Kai Havertz. Adding a talent like Zakharyan will not help in strengthening the midfield but also secure the future of that department for many years to come.
But the problem with his transfer is a tough one to get around. It remains to be seen if the west London club can be successful in their attempt to bring the player to Stamford Bridge in January.
