Chelsea are willing to sell striker Romelu Lukaku and are hoping those good performances in the World Cup later this month will help in boosting his price, according to a report in the Evening Standard.
Lukaku is currently on loan at Inter Milan after he joined the Blues from them last summer. The west London club paid a whopping £97.5 million transfer fee to get the 29-year-old to Stamford Bridge, only for him to fall out with then-manager Thomas Tuchel.
Now, Graham Potter is at the helm. But it is believed that the stance on the Belgian is unlikely to change. The Blues want to recoup as much as possible from the sale of the striker and hope to find suitors after his performance at the World Cup.
The 29-year-old striker has struggled for fitness this season. He has been struggling with a hamstring problem and Inter confirmed yesterday that he had suffered another injury setback, just three weeks before the World Cup.
However, the Belgian plans to be fit for the tournament and the Blues will hope he has a good one to attract suitors. The striker has played only five times for Simone Inzaghi’s side this season in all competitions.
It would be a wise decision to sell the player. His return was not poetic with the striker making 44 appearances for the Blues last season in all competitions, scoring only 15 goals in the process. His falling out with Thomas Tuchel also did not help his cause and it would be wise to get rid of the player as the west London club ushers into a new era under Potter.
It remains to be seen what happens with the striker in the future. The Blues have a verbal agreement with Inter to loan the player again on the same terms next season. It is very likely that is what the Blues will opt for if they cannot sell him.
