Inter Milan chief Roberto Samaden gives his verdict on losing Cesare Casadei to Chelsea

Inter Milan academy director Roberto Samaden has revealed his ‘disappointment’ in losing Cesare Casadei to Chelsea. The 19-year-old joined the Blues this summer for €20 million.

Casadei was the star of the show for the Under-21 side in a friendly against National League South side Dulwich Hamlet FC on Saturday. The Italian Under-21 scored a hat-trick as the young Blues beat Hamlet 6-3.

Now, Samaden has revealed his disappointment at losing the youngster but is still happy to see him flourish at the west London club (h/t Football. London).

“There’s disappointment at not seeing him in a Nerazzurri shirt anymore, but the joy of seeing him at Chelsea is still real. Selling him was an understandable choice from the club’s point of view financially.”

The young midfielder was one of the four signings that fit co-owner Todd Boehly’s long-term vision at the club. He was a jewel in the Inter academy, having been voted their youngster of the club.

He has been in terrific form at the junior level for the Blues, scoring four goals in eight appearances in all competitions. Graham Potter is in need to reinforce his midfield and the club has been looking at players from different clubs.

But instead of spending that time and money elsewhere, Potter could look in his own backyard. Casadei has never played for the senior team, but with the form he is in, the boss could be tempted to call him up to the senior squad once the season resumes.

The second half is congested with fixtures and squad depth will play an important role. Potter is known for improving youngsters and now could be the perfect time for the manager to use Casadei and introduce him to the football world.

It remains to be seen if the young midfielder does get a call-up. The boss will have likely heard of his improvement in the junior side and a senior call-up does not look far.

More Chelsea News:

From what it looks like right now, it wasn’t a bad call to snap him up from I Nerrazzuri in the summer. With the way things are going, Samaden’s frustration is understandable.
