Gabriel Slonina to return to Chelsea for a short training stint before the World Cup

According to a tweet from Fabrizio Romano (h/t Express), young Chelsea goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina will travel to London on Wednesday to join up with the Blues for a short training stint before the World Cup.

Slonina, who was signed by Chelsea for 12m in August from MLS side Chicago Fire, was loaned back to the MLS side till the end of the season.

With the MLS now done, the latter part of which was not played by the 18-year-old who picked up a head injury late last month. He hasn’t played a game since September 18.

The training stint will last two weeks before the goalkeeper goes back to the USA to join up with the national team camp before the World Cup in Qatar.

This could be a beneficial few days for Slonina, who is new to the game at the top level and could actually do so by spending time with the Chelsea squad learning from some of the best players in the world and an excellent manager Graham Potter.

The Blues have three very good and experienced goalkeepers in their own ranks, who can guide the 18-year-old and make him understand what it is like playing between the sticks for one of the best clubs in Europe in the toughest league in the world.

In return, the Chicago Fire academy product can show why Chelsea spent money on him. The player has the potential to be a top keeper. He could start by doing very well in this training stint and catching the eye of the manager.

More Chelsea News:

The likes of Edouard Mendy, and Kepa Arrizabalaga won’t stay at the club forever. Slonina should make sure if there is a succession for goalkeepers at Chelsea, his name is in the hat too.
