Chelsea manager Graham Potter taking no credit for Armando Broja scoring his first goal for the club

Speaking to the media after his side’s 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers (h/t BBC), Chelsea manager Graham Potter talked about not taking credit for Armando Broja scoring his first goal for the club.

The 21-year-old scored the third of the three goals scored by the team in a comprehensive victory over a manager-less and toothless opposition. Mateo Kovacic slid in an excellent pass for the striker to run onto, chop inside on his right foot and curl his shot past the goalkeeper.

After spending a season on loan at Southampton last time around, the Albanian international stayed with Chelsea this summer. He even signed a new six-year deal with the club, days before the former manager Thomas Tuchel was sacked.

Here’s what Potter said regarding not taking any credit for the youngster’s first goal for the club (h/t BBC):

“I’ve been here three or four weeks so taking no credit, great finish nice pass too and whenever he comes on he works hard for the team. He’s had to be patient but he’s been working hard in training and it’s nice for him to score.”

Broja has struggled for game time this season, with no starts so far. He has had to make do with cameo appearances off the bench. But, if the goal against Wolves was a teaser for what is to come, he may not be far away from starting games regularly.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the squad, the Gabon superstar will most probably be the team’s leading centre-forward this season. But, with the flexibility the 33-year-old has depicted of being able to do well even as a left winger, Potter can accommodate both Aubameyang and Broja in certain games. They can play as a front two as well.

For now, what the Chelsea academy product needs to do is to maximise the things he does in whatever time he is getting on the pitch. As a reference, he did well after coming on against Wolves and the goal he scored came as by-product of his decent cameo performance.

More Chelsea News:

The Blues have a lot of games coming, hence the squad will be used to a full extent. Expect Broja to get more minutes to showcase what he is all about in the coming games.
