As per the tweets from CFCPys (h/t Football.London), Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is confused at the decision from the Chelsea owners to sack manager Thomas Tuchel so early on in the season, a week after the deadline day of the summer transfer window.
The news of the club parting ways with Tuchel has got a wide range of reactions from pundits and ex-professionals. Speaking about the situation, Carragher sympathised with the German, saying he was the one who almost acted like a director of football to bring players in during the summer window.
The former Liverpool defender also did not understand the timing of this decision, with the international break being a week and a half away.
A lot of the Chelsea fans would hate to agree with Carragher but they have no other option here. Tuchel was overworking when the transfer window was open to help the board buy the players he needed. Then, he got barely a week to work with his completed squad before getting the sack.
Granted that the Blues’ start to the season was nowhere near good enough. The defeat against Dinamo Zagreb was their third consecutive away loss after underwhelming performances at home as well, barring the Tottenham Hotspur game.
However, the manager, who finally got the squad he wanted by the deadline of the transfer window, should have been given a bit more time to impart his system.
Maybe, the players had a role in this decision. This can be said of the back of a series of below-par performances from such high-quality players.
One cannot change the past now. The key for Chelsea is to find an ideal replacement for Tuchel, who can not only bring results in the short term but build a good foundation for successes to come in the future.
