Brighton give Chelsea permission to speak to Graham Potter following Thomas Tuchel sacking

According to Football.London, Brighton and Hove Albion have given Chelsea permission to speak to their manager Graham Potter. The Blues are looking at the Seagulls’ boss as the potential successor for Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.

The club ownership group is also willing to pay the release clause of £10m associated with Potter’s contract if he has to leave Brighton. The former Swansea manager is already in London to discuss the possibilities with the west London club. He has rejected job offers from Everton and Tottenham Hotspur in the past.

It is also revealed that owner Todd Boehly and his team are looking for a swift managerial appointment. As of now, one of Tuchel’s assistants Anthony Barry is in line to take charge of the team facing Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Former Tottenham and Paris-Saint Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino is also in the race to become the next Chelsea boss, but talks with Potter seem to be in a more advanced stage at this moment in time.

This all has come after the Blues sacked Tuchel on Wednesday morning, hours after their defeat to Dinamo Zagreb on the opening night of the Champions League. The team was underperforming under the German, but he wasn’t given enough time after the deadline day of the transfer market to work with his new squad.

It remains to be seen how quickly this new appointment will be made. One thing is clear that the club won’t shirk away from spending big money to get the right manager in. This might mean that they could pay whatever it takes to get Potter if the Englishman is indeed top of the hiring list.
