Manchester United are confident of beating Chelsea to the signing of Frenkie de Jong

According to Ferran Martinez via Managing Barca on Twitter (h/t football.london), Manchester United are confident of beating Chelsea to the signing of Frenkie de Jong by next week.

The Red Devils are set to push for the 25-year-old’s signing. The Manchester-based club are launching an offensive to make sure they get their man. United are willing to offer the best financial offer to the Dutch national as well as Barcelona.

The Blues and the Red Devils have seemingly been up against each other over the summer to sign De Jong. Chelsea and United have been neck and neck throughout the window.

The Stamford Bridge side are evidently looking to bolster their squad. While we have more pressing concerns to deal with on the pitch, the engine room could do with more quality.

Fans aren’t convinced about most of the options at Thomas Tuchel’s disposal in the midfield. Only N’golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic are seen as good enough by supporters.

The Frenchman’s contract expires after the current season. And injuries have been a constant thorn in the 31-year-old’s side over the last year. Our Croatian star has similar issues and spends a considerable amount of time on the sidelines.

Jorginho was one of Maurizio Sarri’s marquee signings at Chelsea. The Italian is considered a quality player. But fans of the Stamford Bridge side are reluctant to see him in the side. They feel the 30-year-old is too slow at tracking back. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is another player the Blues fans aren’t too keen on.

Conor Gallagher has come off an impressive 2021/22 season with Crystal Palace. The England international is someone supporters have high hopes from. Billy Gilmour is another youngster currently on our books.

De Jong is one of the best midfielders in the world at the moment. It’s not always that a player of his quality is available on the market. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the 25-year-old.
