Frank Lampard hints at Everton stay for Chelsea target Anthony Gordon

Speaking in the post-match interview after Everton’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United last night as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Everton boss Frank Lampard seemed to hint that talented English starlet Anthony Gordon is set to stay in Merseyside for the upcoming season despite interest from Chelsea.

A very talented player, Gordon has shown a lot of promise for Everton. A part of the Merseyside club’s academy for many seasons now, the 21-year-old winger is one of the most exciting players to emerge for the Toffees in recent years.

Heavily linked with a move to Chelsea this summer, Gordon has not allowed the external noise to affect him in any way as he has started off the season on a tremendous note. He has scored a couple of goals in five Premier League games till now.

This is a testimony to the kind of mentality that Gordon possesses and why he is so sought after by clubs other than the fact that he is a very exciting footballer. Regardless, in one way, staying with the Toffees could be the better decision for Gordon right now.

A versatile winger, Gordon can play anywhere across the forward line. He has even been deployed as an attacking midfielder on the rare occasion and his versatility is one virtue that will hold him in very good stead going forward in his career.

It is easy to see why Chelsea want the 21-year-old. He is a player who can define the future for the Blues but also play an important role in the present. However, the plethora of options that the Blues possess may come in the way of his development.

At Everton, Gordon is the first choice under Frank Lampard. He can continue developing and becoming the kind of player we all expect him to turn out into. He could potentially be an option for us in the future, as an even more rounded player.

The downside to this however is the fact that, if Gordon develops as expected, his transfer fee is only going to increase exponentially. Regardless, it does not seem like the Everton wonderkid will make the switch to West London this transfer window at least.

More Chelsea News:

This will not be the last time we are linked with Gordon though. However, next time, we might not be solitary in our interest and many clubs could be fighting for his signature.
